"Wing under the Wings" Exhibition, Deyrolles | April 11 - May 20, 2017
We are pleased to announce an exclusive exhibition of photographs by Muriel Pénicaud at the famous Deyrolle boutique, located at 46 Rue du Bac in Paris's 7th arrondissement. From April 11 to May 20, 2017, visitors will have the opportunity to discover a series of black-and-white photographs that capture the majesty, fragility, and symbolism of birds in their natural environment.
Muriel Pénicaud, Minister of Labor in Édouard Philippe's government, has a secret passion: photography. A dozen of her works are on display on the first floor of the Deyrolle boutique. In the heart of this space, where visitors can discover stuffed animals (polar bears, lionesses, tigresses, and even a unicorn), the minister's photographs adorn the walls. These birds, in flight or perched, captured in black and white, seem to have come straight from the Baie de Somme, where she owns a house in Le Crotoy. "We choose our artists based on their view of nature," explains Francine Campa, director of Deyrolle.
Pierre Bongiovanni, poet and artistic director of Maison Laurentine, describes Muriel Pénicaud's work as follows: "Muriel Pénicaud does not photograph birds. She photographs what they embody: myths, divinities, angels, demons, humans. She attempts to restore within us a part of the splendor that once belonged to us."
She herself took the initiative to bring her works to the Deyrolle boutique. The photographs, priced at around €950 each, are being sold to raise funds for the Sakura Foundation. Founded in 2012 by Muriel Pénicaud, then HR Director at Danone, this foundation supports innovative initiatives led by young people, women, and social entrepreneurs in the fields of education, culture, the environment, and beyond.
Deyrolle, which also hosted works by Marc Dantan, presented a cabinet of curiosities by artist Damien Hirst. Following Muriel Pénicaud's exhibition, the boutique-museum will showcase Jean-Luc Maniouloux's work on the links between urban life and nature from early June.
